Bridging the Gap between SysML v2 and Natural Language for better MBSE

SysML v2 is the new modeling language for systems engineering offering significant advancements over its predecessor. However, there are several hurdles preventing a successful application of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) in practice. SysML v2, like other modeling languages, is a language for experts that require a deep understanding of syntax and semantics to correctly create and understand a model.

This paper introduces an approach that makes MBSE accessible to everyone by using natural language patterns for analysis, requirements, and architecture. An extension to existing requirements management tools adds pattern support so that a writer is guided while writing statements. Furthermore, the extension can construct a SysML v2 model from the statements. A constructed SysML v2 model can be exchanged with other modeling tools and used to generate views such as diagrams or tables automatically imported into the requirements management tool. The approach is compliant to Automotive SPICE and compatible with the INCOSE Guide to Writing Requirements.
